How to get your deals on CheapTweet

If you’ve got deals to tell people about, then we want those deals on CheapTweet! It’s really easy to get your deals on CheapTweet. So easy, in fact, that you don’t have to do anything! We find deals for our site automatically, so all you need to do is talk about them on Twitter.

First, you need a Twitter account. All our deals come from Twitter, so if you’re not tweeting, then you can’t get a deal on CheapTweet.

Next, just post your deals on Twitter. Our search engine will find them automatically and add them to CheapTweet.com, where visitors can find and vote on your deals. You can tweet deals for your own store or company, a friend’s store, or even just a good deal you find somewhere.

That’s all there is to it! There are a few guidelines, however, that can help you make sure we find your deals.

Always include a link. On CheapTweet, we only include deals with a link. You can link to a store, a specific product, a blog post, a printable coupon, whatever. Just make sure there’s a link.
Tell us something specific about your deal. We’re particularly interested in sales, coupons and specials, not your regular low prices. Include some descriptive detail about what the sale or discount is (x% off, free shipping, etc…).
Consider using the #cheaptweet hashtag. Just include this hashtag in a tweet you want to be sure we find. This is optional, but could help us find something we might not otherwise see.
Don’t repost the same link over and over. This won’t increase your vote count; in fact, it will hurt your vote count.
You don’t need to DM or reply to us with deals. Just post a regular tweet about a deal and we’ll find it.
Tell your friends to vote for your deals. You don’t have to log in to vote, so spread the word to all your friends. Use the short link in the Share menu under your deal to post your deal to Twitter. We post the most popular deals (those with the most votes) on our front page.
Create a CheapTweet account. Once you have a CheapTweet account, you can track your deals on the site and see what your Twitter friends are up to.

If you follow @cheaptweet on Twitter, we’ll send you a direct message when one of your deals gets on the site. That way, you’ll always know when we’re posting your deals. And feel free to send us a message (support@cheaptweet.com) if you tweeted a deal that’s not showing up on the site or if you have any other questions about how to get your deals on CheapTweet.

We’ve got more than 150,000 deals, coupons, sales and specials to choose from on CheapTweet! Here’s a brief overview of how to find the best deals.

You can browse through deals by category, including fashion, electronics and lots more. You can also search for particular stores, products or other keywords. And you can see the most popular deals on our Cheapest Tweets page.

When you find a deal you like, you can vote on it so others will also know it’s a good deal. Anyone can vote on deals; you don’t have to sign in to vote. Just click the blue It’s Cheap button next to the deals you like.

But you can also create a free CheapTweet account to keep track of the deals you vote on and save so you can find them later. Once you have a CheapTweet account, you can link that up to your Twitter account and see what deals your Twitter friends are voting on and tweeting about.

So, why not head over to CheapTweet and check out all the great deals?

We’ve added some awesome new social features to CheapTweet this week! You can still find the best deals, discounts, coupons and sales on Twitter, but now you can also connect your CheapTweet account to your Twitter account.

CheapTweet users can connect with their Twitter friends who also use CheapTweet. Once you link your CheapTweet and Twitter accounts, you see what your Twitter friends are up to on CheapTweet, including the deals they’ve tweeted as well as the deals they’ve voted on, which can help you find other great deals you might like. You can also see a lot more about your own CheapTweet history. You can track your votes and save deals you want to remember later.

How to Connect Your CheapTweet and Twitter Accounts

If you already have a CheapTweet account, it’s quick and easy to connect with your Twitter account. You need to be following @cheaptweet on Twitter, so we can send you an authorization code.

Log in to your CheapTweet account
Go to your profile
Click “Add It” in the blue box on the right side of the screen
Complete the 2-step Twitter authorization process

This Week in Tweet-Commerce #2: Now With a Double Extra Hot Soy Latte

The big news this week was the Super Bowl. This year, the NFL actually setup an official super bowl twitter account. As for during the game itself, Twitter managed to click along fairly well. If you want to see what everyone had to say about the on-field action and the ads, check here and here.

It’s been a bit of a quiet week on the tweet-commerce front. Jenn over at our sister blog, Appozitegeist explains the Thin Mint Effect on Twitter and how retailers and brands can’t afford to ignore it. Mr. Tweet (very handy service, by the way) writes about a coffee shop in Houston that’s used Twitter to double its customer-base. They’ll even take orders via tweets!

Though it’s not strictly Twitter related, I thought I’d share this TechCrunch interview with Robert Kalin, founder of Etsy in Davos. If you can get through Michael Arrington insulting handmade goods, it’s got some interesting stuff about Etsy’s business.

We all know Twitter is a great way to socialize, make contacts and even keep up with the news - all in real time. The same features that make Twitter great for those uses also make it great for distributing and finding great deals on just about anything. That’s why we built CheapTweet.

We see it as part of our mission to help store owners use Twitter to its full potential and help deal hunters track down that great money-saver which stretches their dollars farther. With that, we’re introducing a new regular feature here on the CheapTweet blog to keep everyone informed about the goings on in Twitter-land in general and especially in the brave new world of Tweet-Commerce.

First, let’s start off with some news about Twitter itself. We recently found out that Twitter may have surpassed Digg in total traffic (at least for a week). We also found out that Twitter may be getting even more money from venture capitalists that think it’s worth $250 million. Sounds like they must have a business plan in there somewhere.

We learned a few things about what not to do on Twitter when a user called @astrospace had a very public meltdown, going down raging about Twitter’s customer support. Also, we learned you shouldn’t use Twitter to publicly insult a large customer. Remember, if you say it on Twitter it’s public. It gets shared by followers and indexed on Google. It can and will haunt you forever.

As for doing business on Twitter, I just found the Twitter as a Business Tool blog. He’s selling a book and some other training things that I can’t vouch for but he did recently write a post with 17 reasons your business should be on Twitter. Pretty good stuff there about how Twitter can help your brand.

Share CheapTweet Deals With The World Using ShareThis

We added a new feature this week that lets you share CheapTweet deals with everyone, not just Twitter users. On the tweet page you can now use the new ShareThis button to easily share a tweet on Facebook, post it to Delicious or email it to a friend. There’s tons of other options for pretty much any social service out there.

By the way, you can get to the tweet page by clicking the “More…” link anywhere you see tweets on our site.

So don’t just keep the good deals to yourself, share the love (and the deals) with the rest of the world when you find something that saves you money on CheapTweet!

CheapTweet In The Austin Business Journal

CheapTweet was featured in an article in the Austin Business Journal about how local Austin, TX businesses are using Twitter. It’s great to get some coverage like this from the local media. Unfortunately, the online version of the article requires a subscription to the ABJ. Here’s a quick excerpt:

In November, Appozite LLC CEO Hayes Davis launched CheapTweet as one of four products the company sells to e-commerce companies. CheapTweet is designed for 21st century bargain hunters. The program scans Twitter for the best deals, coupons and sales that people are messaging about and then posts them on its home page.

Deals that attract enough votes are listed in the Web site’s Cheapest Tweets section. For e-commerce companies, CheapTweet also tracks responses to tweets.

Like [LiveOak 360 CEO Andy] Meadows, Davis said Twitter’s chief benefit is its immediacy — real-time information. But it also broadens the exposure of any company that wants to do more than simply operate a Web site and invest in search engine optimization, he said.

“[Twitter] has this real-time power that’s really difficult to find anywhere else,” Davis said. “For breaking news, it’s hard to beat that.”

As a bonus, it also talks about how our favorite Austin coffee shop, Sodade, is using Twitter to grow its business.
